3 Reasons You Should Start A Podcast

Podcasting is a form of audio broadcasting on the Internet.  You can create or listen to whatever kind of audio content you can imagine. The media form of providing and consuming content has made somewhat of a re-emergence over the past couple years with the success of popular shows such as Serial & STown.

It seems that everyone is jumping on the “starting a podcast” bandwagon and for good reason. It’s a relatively easy and low-cost medium to create but has the potential to give you a large platform.

Have you been entertaining the idea of starting a podcast? Maybe you already listen to podcasts and feel you have something to say that is not being represented in the current podcast landscape? Perhaps you have a business and would like to add a podcast as a complementary form of how you get people to find out about your business?

If you have ever considered starting a podcast or are on the fence about taking the leap, here are 3 reasons why you should just do it:

You are passionate about a subject and have an opinion that others will want to hear

Are you passionate about a subject or topic? Is there something that you just can’t stop talking about? Do you love to read articles or books about this topic and listen to other podcasts on the subject matter but feel you can add even more to the conversation? Having your own podcast, where you get to control and organize content around that topic can be very rewarding. Don’t worry about who else is doing what and how many other people are already in the space. Their opinion and voice are not yours

You can change someone’s life

Believe it or not, what you have to say can help change someone’s life. I started listening to personal finance podcasts and learned more about Financial Freedom and early retirement. It encouraged me to do more research and to make a plan so that one day I’d be able to reach Financial Independence. I don’t know if that would have happened if it weren’t for listening to podcasts.

If you have a message that you want to spread and believe it will help improve someone’s life, a podcast is a powerful platform to facilitate the start of your very own movement.

You already have a business /platform and want to expand your reach

If you have an existing business or platform, adding a podcast can be a great way to get more people to find out about you and get your existing tribe to connect with you even more. Nowadays more and more people are using podcasts as their go to ways to consume information.

It’s also unique because listeners get to hear your voice and it serves as a much more intimate platform and method to get your message out there. If you have a service or product business, you can develop a podcast around the subject matter and use it to convert listeners to clients and customers.

Those are just three reasons why you should start your own podcast. If you do decide to venture into the world of podcasting, just know that while it can be very rewarding, it will take some consistent work to become good at it and to grow your listener base.
